I don’t know where else to put this so as to ask Eric and Eliot to address the event, but here goes:
“Russia hits Ukrainian train shortly after Boris Johnson and top European officials leave station”, by Jaroslav Lukiv, BBC News, 9/13/26, https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy5zg41dkqwo
My H thinks Putin is “bound and determined” to start a war with NATO. What do you guys think?
I was literally mesmerized while listening to these three extremely knowledgeable people explaining about 9/11 before and up to present time. I like so many citizens did not know of how this terrorist attack has influenced what has happened subsequently up to present time. I’m more aware and also quite frightened about where we stand now. How can we change or at least start a new trajectory that may even save us?
(1) with respect to Saddam Hussein and WMD, my opinion at the time, or more precisely, after we found out the WMD did not exist, was that Bush acted on the best information available at the time. I felt that way because then US Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La) told me that she believed the WMD existed since she was on the Senate Committee that had access to the classified information on which Bush’s decision was based. I grew up around the corner from Mary, spent weekends with her, and our parents were friends. I had no reason to doubt (and still don’t) her honest assessment.
(2) shortly after the 9/11 attacks Bernard Lewis published “The Crisis of Islam: Holy War and Unholy Terror”(November 2001), which I bought and read as soon as it came out in order to try and understand what had happened. It did not make me feel all warm and fuzzy about Islam. In fact, it had the opposite effect.

Two thoughts.

That was fantastic! Balanced. Fact centered. Diplomatic. Thank you.
